Travelling Resource Trunks

Bring our knowledge to you

Travelling Trunk

Anyone in Canada can borrow!

What are travelling trunks?

These customized mini-collections (generally around 30 items) are compiled by The Centre for Literacy librarian to meet your needs as a borrower. A trunk offers samples of materials in a given subject area, including books, kits, audiocassettes, CD's, videotapes, DVD's and selections from our vertical file.  Trunks can be used to preview materials you may want to eventually purchase, to support professional development activities, or to enrich program content.

Who uses Travelling Trunks, and for what?
If you are a literacy teacher, tutor or coordinator, Travelling Trunks enable you to preview materials, to support professional development, or to enrich program content.

If you are a researcher, they allow you to borrow large numbers of items at one time, or review literature on a given topic.

If you work in a field that has a literacy component, Travelling Trunks can be used in displays at professional events to raise awareness or to support training.

If you can imagine a use for them, we can make it happen.

Customized Travelling Trunks

Our librarian can create a customized trunk to match your specifications. Fill out the trunk request form to request a trunk and let us know what you want included. Examples of topics for customized trunks include:

  • Health Literacy
  • Learning Disabilities
  • Numeracy
  • Media and Technology
  • graphic: bearpaw Native Literacy
  • Family Literacy
  • Adult Basic Education

We recommend that you first have a look at our online catalogue or talk with our librarian to get a sense of what is in our collection.

Borrowing Conditions
To borrow a Traveling Trunk, you must be affiliated with an organization and sign a form accepting responsibility for lost or damaged items. Trunks circulate for a period of ten (10) weeks, and may be renewed on a case-by-case basis, subject to demand.

In exceptional cases, individuals may be permitted to borrow a traveling resource trunk. Such individuals will need to make a cash deposit or provide a credit card number as guarantee for the materials ' return.

Borrowers are responsible for returning materials within this 10 week period, and for paying the costs of shipping/postage.
