Needs Assessment of the Health Education &
Information
Needs of Hard-to-Reach Patients
The Centre for Literacy of Québec, in collaboration
with staff at the Montreal General Hospital (MUHC), has recently
completed the Needs Assessment phase of a project to develop Health
Education Centres at the MGH (MUHC). The two documents produced during
the course of this project are now available for purchase, and may be
viewed here in both HTML and PDF formats.
This background paper reviews the literature of the health
literacy field, providing an overview of current trends and practices,
describing common challenges and pitfalls, and profiling related
projects and initiatives undertaken throughout Canada.
Part 2. Report on the Needs
Assessment
This document presents findings and anlysis of the Needs
Assessment conducted at the Montreal General Hospital (MUHC). The needs
of "hard-to-reach" patients, their caregivers and family members,
hospital support staff and health care professionals are each
represented and analysed. Data was collected through a series of
interviews and focus groups.
