Maria Moriarty is a member of the Canadian Union of Employees (CUPE) National Literacy Working Group, which helps to guide CUPE's literacy and clear language work.and provides feedback and insight on the tasks needed to meet the Literacy Program's goals and objectives. She has worked in the adult literacy sector for over fifteen years, as a staff person at the AlphaPlus Centre in Toronto.
