Summer Institute 2011 Background

Summer Institute 2011 was the third in a series devoted to workplace literacy and essential skills. The 2009 Institute explored the question of “What Works? and Why?” Summer Institute 2010 [link] asked “What Counts? and Why?”,  examining how policy and accountability requirements in different contexts determine what is taught to whom and how success is measured.

Several new themes emerged from the 2010 institute, especially the topics of embedded teaching and learning [link to short description of what is meant by ‘embedded’?] and the qualifications and professionalism of workplace essential skills (WES) instructors. We and our partners [link to separate document listing partners] decided to address these two topics in the 2011 Institute.
