In addition to our own library holdings, the Centre hosts three other special collections. The contents of both are included in our online library catalogue. To see a complete list of the titles, do an Advanced Search for the terms "IFPCA" or "LDAQ" in the Location field.
Please note that the Centre is no longer involved in this service. The collection is now with the Association of Teachers of English of Quebec (ATEQ). Please visit the ATEQ website Literacy Trunks Page for more details.
The Initiative fédérale-provinciale conjointe en matière d'alphabétisation (IFPCA) has been Quebec's annually-renewed, federal-provincial cost-shared program. This program funds local literacy research, promotion, professional development or materials creation projects, proposed by Quebec's adult literacy and basic education providers.
The IFPCA Collection contains the English-language products of these projects, and includes research and project reports, promotional materials, student writings, and teaching and assessment materials. All titles may be borrowed, and several are available online.
French-language IFPCA materials are housed by the Centre de documentation en education des adultes et la condition feminine (CDEACF).
In 2002 the Learning Disabilities Association of Quebec (LDAQ) Montreal Chapter One selected and purchased several remedial teaching materials for the use of their tutors. Because they lacked the space and capacity, they asked The Centre for Literacy to catalogue, host and circulate these materials on their behalf. The Montreal Chapter One tutoring service discontinued their tutoring service in 2003, so this collection is now accessible to all borrowers.
