The Centre for Literacy
News from The Centre SUMMER 2002

Centre wins Canada Post
Award
Continuing a
wonderful winning trend in 2002, The Centre has won the
Canada Post
Literacy Award for Community Leadership for the province of Quebec. The award
carries a certificate and a $2000 prize to be given at a ceremony in October.
We are honoured to be among the group of recipients chosen since the awards
were begun more than a decade ago.
International Literacy
Month - Book sale and events
Our second annual International Literacy Month book sale
will run from September 5 29 in the Marché de lOuest in
Dollard-des- Ormeaux. This year, we have planned events celebrating literacy
for children and adults. Highlights include storytelling sessions and writing
workshops; we have something for everyone, whether you like to listen to
stories or want to learn how to spin them for others. Many provincial literacy
groups will have information tables throughout the month, and some will have a
representative on site at specific times to answer questions.
Selected events are
listed in the side bar. A full schedule as of August 15 is available in print,
and on our web site; updates are being posted on our web site.
Special Preview Sale
for Educators From Monday, September 2 through Wednesday, September 4,
educators will be given the chance to get first choice of the selection of more
than 100,000 books. |
