There is still space in our Summer Institute 2001

We have been receiving calls from interested participants who thought that the date of April 15 for a deposit was also the cut-off date for registration. That was the date we have used to hold places for people who were waiting for financial support from their organizations; in the past, they have sometimes received approval only in late May after registration closed. We do still have some space available for this year.

We anticipate an exciting three days of exploration and learning. Among the confirmed participants are researchers and practitioners from Canada, the US and the UK. They include Sally McKeown from the British Educational Council for Technology (BECTA), Chris Abbott from King’s College, London, Pat Hatt, Toronto-based adult literacy educator and LD specialist, and June Crawford from NIFL inWashington, DC.

Health Literacy Centre Background Paper to be posted on line: Comments invited

The Needs Assessment for a proposed Health Literacy Centre at the Montreal General Hospital (MUHC) is in its second phase, collecting data from patients, health care professionals, support staff and family caregivers about the communication needs of “hard-to-reach” patients. The project is considering the needs of those with low literacy, with cultural and second language barriers, and with cognitive and physical disabilities.
